The Small Animal Facility For Experimentation of IISER Mohali was established in 2015 for the purpose of breeding of small laboratory animals to be used for research and education with the basic objective of advancing biological knowledge. However before any experiments are conducted on animals, the protocol needs to be approved by Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) which meets regularly to discuss protocols. The experiments are performed with due care so as to minimize the pain or injury inflicted to animals.
Adequate veterinary care is provided. Daily observation of animals is accomplished by trained Veterinarian/Animal technicians/attendants.
The overall functioning of the animal facility as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). An IAEC is in placed following guidelines of Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA). In addition to IAEC, a functional Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) exists that is responsible for ensuring proper care and use of animals. The facility is duly registered with CPCSEA for the purpose of research for education, breeding for inhouse use and trade with Reg. No.: 1842/GO/ReBiBt/S/15/CPCSEA.
