Tuesday 20 February 2024, 04:00pm
Dr. Mohd Shafi Bhat (Auburn University, USA)
Zoom Link
Location : Online
Abstract: In this talk, Dr Bhat will provide some of the highlights of his research in the field ofpaleobiology. Using case studies, he will demonstrate how bone morphology and microanatomy ofextant and extinct animals has provided insights into the various aspects of the biology of vertebrates. He will also give a glimpse of recent and current research that examines the ecological and ontogeneticgrowth of several vertebrate groups. He will demonstrate how his research integrates multiple analyticaltools (e.g., gross anatomy and morphology, bone microanatomy and histology, and numerical methodssuch as statistics) to uncover differential growth patterns of tetrapods. This will also include his futureinterests in developing research skills further by integrating cutting-edge research techniques likemicro-CT imaging and/or biogeochemical methods using both extinct animals and their modern analogsthat would allow three dimensional analyses of past life and help us to understand the dietary behaviorsof extinct animals and their interactions with surrounding environments. His future research interestsare also shaped by the emerging trends in bone microstructural studies\n\nMeeting ID: 944 2649 3601\nPasscode: 070134\n
