Nanomaterials, catalysis, renewable energy
Research Interests
Dr. Gautam is working towards the development of diverse functional nanomaterials for energy harvesting and environmental remediation using photo-, electro-, and piezocatalytic approaches. He has made original contributions toward the utilization of waste plastics as
feedstocks to produce nanomaterials. He has discovered novel material properties such as enormous oxygen adsorption from the atmosphere, hypoxia (controlling oxygen adsorption by materials using light), autophagy (self-removal of photocatalysts from reaction media) and oxygen activation for the use of free-air as efficient oxidants. The development of self-
activating catalysts for fine-chemical preparation from pollutants and green hydrogen production from seawater splitting using piezo-catalysts are notable aspects of Dr. Gautam's work.
