Abstract: Precision measurements of the W-boson properties and mass are of great interest as a test of the Standard Model of particle physics. The W boson was discovered about four decades ago, however, as of today, there is a tension between the Standard Model expectation and the measured value of the W boson mass. The CMS experiment is performing analysis with Run 2 data collected in 2016 for its first measurement of the W mass. The main strategies and challenges for performing such a precise measurement will be discussed. The plan to exploit the full LHC Run 2 dataset and new ways to mitigate modelling uncertainties will also be discussed. In the second part of my talk details of the operation of the CMS silicon tracker will be discussed. Evaluation of the tracker performance, monitoring and calibrations and the impact on physics will be discussed.\n\nMeeting ID: 924 5931 3654\nPasscode: 266822\n
