Prof. Amit Agarwal, Department of Physics, IIT Kanpur

Location : Conference Room, AB-1
Abstract: Band geometric properties of the Bloch wavefunction, such as Berry curvature, Quantum metric, etc. can give rise to stimulating transport and optical phenomena in quantum materials. In this seminar, I will explore some of our recent adventures in this exciting field. In the linear response regime, I will briefly discuss i) symmetric or Drude Hall effect, ii) planar Hall effect in quasi-2D systems, and iii) Odd parity Orbital magneto-resistance in magnetic systems. In the nonlinear response regime, I will discuss all possible second order charge responses including the Berry curvature dipole contribution, and the quantum metric induced contribution. Interestingly, we show that the quantum metric induced contribution offers a way to manipulate the valley degree of freedom in inversion symmetric systems such as graphene.
