Abstract: This talk will look at how a particular academic construct called 'Literary Theory' came into being sometime towards the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, as a prosthetic method for the Humanities primarily based on ideology critique, and explore how a subsequent problematization of the paranoid nature of 'ideology critique' over the last thirty years has led literary studies away from it towards a more affective post-critical and post-theoretical turn.
