Abstract: It is now well established that although the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics provides an excellent effective description of fundamental interactions at the electroweak scale and below, it cannot be the complete theory. Its inability to account for several theoretical and experimental observations -- such as neutrino masses, the existence of dark matter and dark energy, the baryon asymmetry of the universe, the metastability of the Higgs vacuum, and the strong CP problem -- clearly points toward the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). An extended scalar sector, even with the simple addition of a second scalar doublet, can address many of these shortcomings. The Aligned Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (A2HDM) is a particularly simple example, featuring two scalar doublets with Yukawa couplings aligned in flavour space. This alignment also provides a unified and flexible framework for studying all the usual Z2-symmetric 2HDMs simultaneously. In this talk, I will discuss global fits and various phenomenological implications (including electron EDM and cosmological phase transitions) of A2HDM.
