About the Speaker:Professor Naresh Chandra Pant, with over four decades of academic and professional experience, retired as Senior Professor from the University of Delhi and is currently a Visiting Honorary Scientist at NCPOR, Goa. He has played a major role in the Indian Antarctic Programme for over a decade, served among the Chief Officers of the Geosciences Group of Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), and chaired the INSA National Committee during 2019-2024. After a brief tenure at ONGC in 1981, he served at the Geological Survey of India (1982-2008), IIT Kharagpur (2008-2009), and the University of Delhi (2010-2022), and was also Adjunct Faculty at IIT Bhubaneswar. His research spans metamorphic petrology, mineralogy, crystallography, exploration geology, polar science, and EPMA-based analytical methods, with work across Central India, Rajasthan, the Northeast, the Himalaya, and Antarctica. Prof. Pant has made notable contributions to supercontinent reconstruction, high-pressure metamorphism in the Bundelkhand craton, Antarctic geology, Himalayan metamorphism, and cryosphere-hydrosphere studies. He is a recipient of the National Mineral Award and the Antarctic Silver Jubilee Award.
