Abstract: /b>For over a decade and more, climate urbanism has become a familiar phrase in urban
scholarship. And yet we remain confounded as there are few words, if any, in local
languages of South Asia that denote ‘climate’. Instead of trying for a rough approximation,
such as jalvayu, mausam or abo-hawa, I shall suggest that we use three nested terms -
weather, seasons and climate - to intimate different atmospheric temporalities that shape
urban life and which, in turn, are impacted by human activities. A careful attention to these
related atmospheric temporalities, I shall further argue, offers a rich possibility to combine
planetary concerns with accounts of experiential life and social relations.
