Indian Women and Mathematics Annual Conference, 2026
The Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM) is a collective of mathematicians established in 2009 with the objective of encouraging more women to pursue higher education and careers in mathematics. Over the years, IWM has worked towards creating a supportive environment that fosters engagement with contemporary developments in mathematics and promotes the sustained participation of women in research and academia. To further these objectives, IWM organizes a range of academic activities across the country throughout the year. These initiatives are funded by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and are supported by the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM) of the International Mathematical Union (IMU).
In association with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, IWM organized its Annual Conference during 9–11 July 2026 at IISER Mohali. The conference brought together women students, college and university faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career researchers working across diverse areas of mathematics. It provided a platform for participants to exchange mathematical ideas, present current research, and share their professional experiences. A key objective of the conference was to foster meaningful interactions between junior and senior women mathematicians through both formal scientific sessions and informal discussions. The scientific programme comprised plenary lectures, invited talks, contributory talks, and poster presentations, with a strong emphasis on mentoring, networking, and collaboration. Participants included Ph.D. students at various stages of their doctoral programmes, postdoctoral fellows, early-career researchers, and faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers. While the conference primarily aimed to encourage the participation of women in mathematics, participation was open to all, and a small number of male participants also attended the conference.
