On behalf of the Department of Chemical Sciences (DCS), IISER Mohali and the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Chandigarh/Amritsar local chapter, a one-day workshop was organized for the B.Sc/MSc students majoring in chemistry from the local institutes/university/colleges to share the knowledge and inspire them towards research in the cutting edge topics and to showcase the state-of-the-art research facilities and areas to pursue research career and also to provide career advice in chemical sciences and related areas. About 75 students and a few faculty from nine different colleges and universities in Punjab/Chandigarh region participated in this program. Initially, the Dean, Outreach IISER Mohali gave a welcome speech. Following this, the Head of DCS introduced the department and elaborated the opportunities like internships, integrated PhD, PhD and postdoc openings to the students. The program included five general and research talks as follows: Dr. Sabyasachi Rakshit on Replicating active transport of microorganisms in synthetic systems, Dr. Raj Kumar Roy on Innovation, discovery and impact of polymers in our daily life, Dr. Sugumar Venkataramani on Direct observations of reactive intermediates, Prof. T. V. Venkateswaran on Nature of Science, and Prof. Satoshi Takahashi (Tohoku University, Japan) on Single-molecule FRET and FCS investigation of the interaction between SARS-CoV2 N protein and RNA. All these talks were organized in morning and evening sessions. A poster session was conducted before the lunch and was presented by the research groups of the Department of Chemical Sciences to showcase the research activities at IISER Mohali. A lab tour was also organized for the students to impress upon various labs and research facilities and motivate them towards research. The whole activities were funded by the SSR part of the SERB projects of the PIs, Prof R Vijaya Anand, Dr Sanchita Sengupta, Dr Jino Geroge and Dr Sugumar Venkataramani and also the Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER Mohali. The support and participation from the faculty of DCS, IISER Mohali, cooperation and support of the institute administration, and, more importantly, the active contribution and voluntary services of several research scholars of the department for running the event successfully are highly appreciated.
