Research Interests
Heading the Geomorphology of Mountains and Valleys (GEOM) laboratory, my research is centered on unraveling the intricate dynamics of landslides across various geological settings. We also aim to understand the multifaceted influences shaping co-seismic, post-seismic, and rainfall-induced landslides within diverse orogenic landscapes. The geomorphic imprints of catastrophic landslides, their influence on sediment budgets at local and basin-wide scales, and ways to minimize vulnerability and risks are other key areas of our focus, in particular to explore their impact on fluvial incision within headwater streams. We employ an integrative approach encompassing fieldwork, remote sensing techniques, and laboratory analyses, supplemented by cutting-edge machine learning models for analyzing extensive datasets.
We're also undertaking a pioneering project aimed at developing near-real-time early warning systems to mitigate landslide hazards in the Indian Himalayas and Western Ghats. This initiative involves synergizing outputs from the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with a comprehensive landslide database, offering a proactive strategy to enhance preparedness and resilience in landslide-prone regions. Through our interdisciplinary approach and innovative methodologies, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the understanding and management of landslide hazards in mountainous terrains.
