Research Interests
I have been conducting archival and ethnographic research on border infrastructures, tracing circulations of material, labour and ideas that accompany road construction sites in Lahaul- Spiti and Ladakh. This project documents the history of the Hindustan Tibet Road and attempts to piece together what I call a subaltern travelogue. A travelogue that narrates the journeys of those who travel to build the roads we travel on. Broadly, I study social and spatial relations as they unfold in different geographies. My work draws upon the sub disciplines of feminist geography, labour geography, urban studies and ethnographies of infrastructure. Apart from normative academic publications, I am also interested in exploring art based and collaborative ways of doing and sharing research.
My recent work further investigates assemblages apart from roads (particularly water, sanitation and air quality) that produce the urban in uneven ways. This is collaborative work with interdisciplinary teams where we seek to understand infrastructural geographies of fast growing small towns in Punjab and Himachal.
